Learning to drive in Chester
The ancient Roman city of Chester is a great place to learn to drive. While it has its fair share of rush hour traffic and old roads, there are some perfect places for learner drivers to practise - as long as you avoid the always-busy Bridge Street. Our driving instructors know all the best areas to help you get to grips with life behind the wheel.
Chester has some quiet neighbourhoods ideal for learner drivers to practise in. Hoole is normally clear of cars and has many looping roads such as Oaktree Court, Ashwood Court, and Chesnut Court, which are great for building your confidence as a driver. Head to Hoole Road to practise the basics of moving off and stopping, signalling, and steering without the pressure of other cars around. Alternatively, head to Handbridge Road to continue mastering your clutch control, or to Eccleston to become an expert at bay parking. It has many car parks, including the Curzon House car park.
Once you’re confident with the basics of learning to drive, it’s a good idea to move onto some bigger challenges. Give Grosvenor roundabout a go to become a pro at roundabouts, or try Nicholas street for dual carriageway practice. For more dual carriageway practice, head to the A41 ring road or the A55 - these routes tend to come up in the test. Remember, practice makes perfect!
Manual and automatic driving lessons
We value choice - that’s why we offer both manual and automatic lessons in Chester.
It’s a good idea to have a think about which transmission style suits you best before starting your driving lessons. Bear in mind that with a manual licence you’ll be qualified to drive a manual and an automatic car, which isn’t the case if you go for an automatic licence. Automatic instructors are also in greater demand, making automatic lessons more expensive. So if you’re on a budget, you might prefer manual lessons.
Learning automatic does have its perks though. There’s less to get your head around. Plus, automatics change gears for you making it easier to drive on busy streets. So, if you’re driving in rush hour, especially near Bridge Street, you might prefer this option. Either way, we’re sure you’ll make the choice that’s best for you.
